The “Breakthrough Series” consists of oil paintings mostly painted between 2018-2020. I began this series with “Breakthrough 1” that was created for an exhibit I had at the Massillon Museum with former Kent State University professor, Charles Basham. This series sets itself apart from the rest of my work by color choice and positioning of the parts of the paintings. During this time, my focus was on the feeling of being engulfed by the forest. These paintings are meant to make you feel like you are walking through the trees and you are so close, that a branch might just hit you in the face. I purposely positioned trees in the foreground to reinforce this idea.
