My name is Eileen Dorsey and I am an artist working in Cleveland Ohio. I grew up in Northeast Ohio and have been making art my entire life.
When I was a child, I didn’t want to grow up and become a doctor or police officer like the other children may have, instead I wanted to be a famous artist. I was heavily involved with arts and crafts as a little girl. In the summer I would take art classes, and during the school year I would not only excel in my art classes, but I would help my mother with her craft classes.
After graduating from middle school with the eighth grade arts award, I entered into highschool and recieved an art scholarship to Saint Joseph Academy. While in highschool, I was very active in the arts, taking as many classes as possible. I was even a member of the art club. As a senior privilege I was able to take study halls in the art room, and I did, which meant I had 3 out of 4 blocks of the day in that room. It was great! All the hard work paid off when graduation came and I recieved the four year consecutive arts award.
After highschool I attended Kent State University. It took me a couple of years to become acclimated to the freedom of college. After a fun two years I started buckling down on my work. It was then that I decided to go after my dream. After that decision, I was accepted into a student show, made dean’s list, and recieved a scholarship of the arts. I was made student gallery currator of the Music Listening Center Gallery, and even after I had resigned, had my first solo exhibition there. In May 2006, I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts Degree.
Since receiving my Bachelor’s Degree, I have shown at several galleries, and coffee shops in the area. My work changes, but my desire for success stays the same.
Lately, my work focuses on interactions between one another. I photograph crowds and use portions of several photographs when creating a composition. I try to create a dialogue between ‘characters’ and the viewer through body positioning and facial expression. I use color and texture to emphasize on certain areas of the peice, and to keep the viewers eye moving throughout.
But you never know what I will come up with next year.
Thank you for veiwing my website. I hope you enjoy.
